Welcome to Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
A city of southeast-central Arkansas south-southeast of Little Rock. Founded c. 1820 as Mount Marie, it was renamed in 1832. You keep thinking Pine Bluff is a little town, but the more you drive the more of it you see, and more, and more. It is all spread out, nice and clean. The people there are the same way. Pine Bluff sits on The River, and is a major intermodal shipping point. It is also a center for many state government agencies. Their little convention center can host a party of 10,000 -- or make 10 big people feel right at home. The Pine Bluff flea market brings visitors and vendors in from all over the state.

It is a port and trade center for an agricultural area and has industries producing metal, wood, and paper products; machinery; electrical equipment; and foods. It is also a research center and the seat of the Univ. of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Of economic importance to the city is the huge Pine Bluff Arsenal to the north; established during World War II, it is the center of U.S. army chemical, biological, and toxicological research. Pine Bluff has an arts and science center and a civic complex designed by Edward Durell Stone. Pine Bluff is conveniently located in the mid-south region of Arkansas, and serves as the major trade center for the southeast portion of the state. With a population over 57,000, Pine Bluff has it all; a historic downtown district, outdoor recreation, attractions, a diverse manufacturing base and warm, friendly people.

Comments Add a comment "What would the reaction be if a president's wife who was white was going to speak at a state-supported institution of higher education because it was founded for "whites." We all know what the answer would be.
